Local Artist

The Bentley Studio is an ever changing showcase of exclusive original sculpture, ceramic, photography and wall art by artist and designerTony Bentley.

Tony is a Lancashire artist and designer working in a wide range of media including hand-carved stone, ceramic, painting and photography.

His work has been shown in various galleries and his clients include Amnesty and The Co-op, where his large scale murals cover the walls of their iconic head office in Manchester. Internationally, he has sold work to clients in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the US.

Tony spent many years working as a graphic designer. A career in this fast-paced, deadline driven job, although creative, produced an appreciation of more time-intensive processes. Fine art has always been his true passion and so it seemed inevitable that he would ultimately follow this path professionally.

The inherently contemporary nature of graphic design is clearly evident in much of his work and over the years he has moved away from figurative work towards more abstract and conceptual pieces.

Drawn to science and the human condition, his work has explored themes from genetics to grief, luminaries of science and culture to the rise of artificial intelligence. He has described himself as ‘an optimistic realist’ and so despite the gravity of some of these themes, his work retains a feeling of hope and (often black) humour.

The Bentley Studio is part of The Salvage House Collective, based in Whalley in the heart of the Ribble Valley. This exciting alliance of like-minded, creative independents are causing quite a stir. With pop-up guests and regular events (often including a gin and real ale bar and mouth-watering food), it fits perfectly with Tony’s desire to move contemporary art out of the traditional white-walled galleries and into a more relaxed and accessible space.

Tony lives in Great Harwood with his wife, Julia and their ageing retriever, Bongo.
