Embrace Bold Colours For 2019

Embracing the evolution in interiors from neutrals to bolder colour, Farrow & Ball has revealed its must have colours to update your home in 2019. As the shift from neutrals continues, people are welcoming colours that are altogether richer and more dramatic in their homes. With the world in turmoil it’s not surprising to see a move toward the comfort of nostalgia – colours that not only enrich homes but also the soul.

De Nimes and Sulking Room Pink herald the introduction of bolder colours, which you can use with abandon. Only released in September 2018 the colours are subtly restrained by grey undertones, combined with a depth of colour which makes the walls feel positively velvety, creating homes that are both stylish and comforting. Joa Studholme, colour curator talks us through these stand out shades.

“De Nimes, like the workwear fabric it is named after, straddles a barrier; it is ultimately fashionable but always feels grounded. A complex blue, it is perfect for those who are wary of moving into a world of colour because it still has a familiar underlying grey tone which is more visibly apparent in spaces with low light. “In well-lit areas it appears much bluer and is distinctive when used on front doors and other exterior surfaces. De Nimes has a restrained elegance and refined sophistication when used on walls and would feel totally at home in a living room particularly when combined with School House White on woodwork and ceilings for a crisper feel. However, it is also a great anchor to a space, so is perfect for use on kitchen units especially when teamed with the slightly darker and equally complex Railings on a central island.”

“Sulking Room Pink is the colour that we have all been looking for. An intriguing mix that sates our desire for both grey and pink. It feels both down to earth as well as a little romantic. It’s elegant on kitchen units particularly when combined with darks like Paean Black and Railings.

Not being overtly pink, but rather a dirty rose, it is perfect in living rooms and snugs to create comforting intimate spaces with enormous warmth which are a joy to relax in at the end of the day. It is important to avoid clean whites with this colour, as its powdery feel makes it incredibly soft and is therefore better used with complementary tones like School House White or fellow pink Peignoir on woodwork or ceilings.”
